Britco Building Systems receives $5779 rebate from FortisBC Inc.
The rebate is for a lighting upgrade recently completed at the Britco Building Systems plant in Penticton.
The plant was illuminated by 400W Mercury Vapor high bays that had been in place since the building was constructed over 30 years ago. In order to improve lighting levels in the plant, and to save energy, Britco decided to modernize the lighting, replacing the old Mercs with new 400W Metal Halide high bay fixtures. The Metal Halides are more energy efficient, producing 75.6 lumens per watt compared to 45.6 lumens per watt for the MV, and produce better quality lighting, with a Colour Rendering Index (CRI) of 65, compared to 32 for the MV.
A total of 284 MV were replaced with 196 new MH. An additional 22 outdoor MV floods were replaced with new MH floods as well.
Annual electrical savings are estimated at 115,583 kW.h and $10,967, and qualified the project for the PowerSense rebate from FortisBC.
The improved light levels were noticed immediately after the upgrade.
The lighting was supplied and installed by Eckert Electric of Penticton.
